They are very much linked.. Food science is more to do with a food and how to make a food which tastes and looks it best and perhaps has something added or taken away. Nutrition relates more to our bodies and the diet which we eat and what we need which of course relates to food. They are very much related and usually when you are studying one the other is in some way incorporated.

Ciara has explained it very well!
I will add a few things: Food science takes care about how food is made, how to measure the quality of food, how to know when a food is safe to eat or not. Nutrition studies how eating certain foods affects our body.
I am a food scientist and I have studied some nutrition and I guess if you study nutrition you will study some of food science.

Food Science is the chemistry and biochemistry and technology of food. As food Scientists, we study the food properties, i.e. nutritional value, safety, flavour in the lab. Nutritionists study the impact of the food when consumed. A good Food Scientist needs to be able to apply nutrition on his job!
