      Lots of things can cause this overexposure to water, exposure to certain chemicals, infections and skin diseases. Not drinking enough water or having certain foods might also cause this..

      Also dryness and harsh climate in the winter. There is a very weird word for having flaky nails it is called onychoschizia.
