When you leave the cornflakes in milk they absorb the milk and that is why they get soggy. The cornflakes are crispy because they have almost no liquid in it, if you put them inside a liquid they will absorb the liquid, in this case milk. But the same will happen if you put them in water, although I won’t recommend eating cornflakes in water!
The longer you leave them the more liquid they will absorb and the more soggy they will become
