All medications are different and target different things. If we think of a pain killer; when we have pain our cells release chemicals called prostaglandins, there are special nerve endings which sense this chemical and send a message to our brain telling it about the pain. Pain killers can work by stopping our cells from releasing this chemical or interfering with these messages in other ways so the pain doesn’t feel as bad.
