      synthetic fertilizers which add lots of nutrients to the farms. Nutrients are essential for plant growth but too much of nutrients is also harmful to the soil and to the groundwater as they goes into the soil (when it rains, it will carry the nutrients from fertilizers into the soil so they go deep into the land and then end up in the groundwater). As a result, we will say we have groundwater contamination or soil contamination.
