Sugar is broken down into glucose and provides the cells in our body with energy. It is further broken down by the body and releases molecules which the body can use for energy or store to use as energy later if it is not needed. Carbohydrates in food also work this way but foods like bread also contains fiber and other nutrients which are good for us where as sugar does not provide any nutrients to the body. That is why carbohydrate rich foods are a better source of energy for us than sugar.
